Exploring the factors associated the types of Beliefs in meritocracy, Recognition of social fairness, and Redistribution policy preference in Korea society

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the types of beliefs in meritocracy, recognition of social fairness, and redistribution policies preference in Korea society, and to identify the characteristics of each type. The data employed for this study are the survey on inequality and unfair public perception in 2021, and the corresponding data for a total of 2,001 adults aged 19 and over nationwide were analyzed accordingly. As the main method of analysis, the latent profile analysis was conducted to classify the beliefs in meritocracy, recognition of social fairness, and redistribution policy preference into exclusive types, and for the purpose of identifying the characteristics of each type, the chi-square test and the one-way ANOVA were administered. According to the analysis, a total of five types are classified into five types: ¡®neutrality¡¯, ¡®Egalitarian¡¯, ¡®Moderately preferring redistribution¡¯, ¡®Meritocratic¡¯, and ¡®idealism¡¯. Each type showed differences according to demographic and psychological characteristics. The results of this study is believed to provide basic data necessary for setting the direction of social welfare policy that can gain the sympathy of the people.
